THE "AFTER SAP YEE JIU" - AFTER THE 12TH DAY
Morning Mr Grumpy! |
GREAT GRANDMA is as CINA as it can get. She is the typical olden chinese women who prefer to have a son than a daughter. In chinese tradition back in the days, Men/Boys are regarded as family treasure as they will continue to carry the family surname and in Chinese traditions, that is a BFD.
Someone's gonna get it from me RIGHT NOW!.....MOMMY! |
Girls however, and unfortunately are insignificant. They have no value as once they get married they have to follow the husbands surname and worse yet, they cannot use their original surname! I have experienced this before on my wedding day and man was i SHOCKED!
Ok lah, at least you got your milk, the smile is back on |
Mrs Wong had to throw out a Chinese Hand Fan as we left the hotel to head to my place. Then her mom had to pick it up. The Chinese Hand Fan is called a "Sin" in chinese, its similar to "Sing" which means surname. WSo the significance of this pantang thing is is that the daughter is throwing away her original surname to follow the hubby.....akakakkakakkakaka
After my food, i would like to sleep so dont disturb me |
AND I MEAN IT! |
Ok, getting a bit over engrossed with that pantang, here is the story of the day "AFTER THE SAP YI JIU"...in the eyes of the elders, a woman who has just given birth is considered "SOW", meaning dirty, taboo and shit like that. And because of that belief, My Grandma, your GREAT GRANDMA didnt come and see you at al until today!
And then.....siesta time |
It was a big thing for her. We all knew that she wanted to see you sooooooo much but because of her pantang beliefs, she stayed away......and especially because you are a BOY, it was evena a bigger FRIGGIN Deal for her to see you ASAP!
she planned the most spectacular meal for this special day and the moment she saw you, tears rolled down her eyes and she just couldnt let go of you....FYI, she is 95 years old....it came to a point where she even lightly scolded your mama for the way she carried you.....SO OVER PROTECTIVE your great grandma
But i must say, she loooked superbly happy and that pomelo leave she had stuck on to her jade was classic. it was the funniest shit.
